Devil’s Night is Every Night in Detroit

burn-2012Most associate Devil’s Night with October 30th, the night before Halloween. It is chiefly associated with the serious vandalism and arson seen in Detroit, Michigan from the 1970s to the 1990s.  Arson is a massive problem in Detroit.  Doing a search for recent images of fires in Detroit and it is not hard to find piles of photos of structures on fire.  Without a doubt Detroit has an arson problem.

Kevin Orr, the Emergency Financial Manager, has more than enough on his plate to deal with.  Second guessing him at this early juncture would be extremely kevyn-orrdisrespectful.  He has not had enough time in his appointed position to make a major dent in the problems that plague the City of Detroit.  There are those who expect that since he has been in office for so many days that they would see blue sky’s and sunshine making its way into the dark caverns that Mr. Orr has taken on.

It is no secret that the Detroit Fire Department is under staffed and ill equipped.  Every major media outlet in the southeast Michigan has ran stories about fire houses being closed, slow response times, broken equipment.  The list seems to be endless.  Here are links from just Fox 2 Detroit that make the point:

Family says slow EMS response time nearly claimed boy’s life

In all of the wreckage of the structures that are burned in Detroit on a nightly basis, evidence has to be apparent that a serial arsonist(s) are at hand.  Many times an arsonist will hide in plain sight among the spectators watching.  It is time that those who commit the crime of arson be found, locked up, charged, brought to justice and made to pay dearly for making problems worse for those who have to deal with the aftermath of their actions.
