ALPENA, MI – Family and friends are mourning the loss of Samantha Lyn Schrader, a 16-year old Alpena High School girl, who died as the result of a one car auto accident over the weekend.
Police and EMS were called out on Sunday, September 7th, 2014 at about 8:45 pm to a one car vehicle accident that occurred on Herron Road west of Alpena.
Emergency crews located a small Dodge car that had left the roadway and came to rest after crashing sideways against a tree.
It is believed Schrader lost control of her vehicle on the gravel road causing it to slide off of the road where it struck the tree.
The Jaws of Life were used to remove her from the car. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Grief counselors were called into the Alpena Senior High School to assist students with the loss of their friend and classmate.
There was no indication of any alcohol or drug related factors to the crash. Speed is considered to be more of a cause of the accident. The crash remains under investigation.
