Westland Suspect Arraigned on First Degree Murder Charge

WESTLAND, MI – He is accused of taking the life of 30-year-old Rachel Watson in her basement after her body was discovered on October 23rd, 2014.Jamie Pearson

Watson lived in the home in the 34800 block of Avondale with her four young children.  They had lived in the home for a couple of years.

She was last seen alive Wednesday morning, October 22, 2014 with her children.  The children range in age from 1 years old to 12 years old.

When the children got off the school bus that afternoon, Jamie Pearson, 38-years-old, the former boyfriend of Rachel Watson, was inside of the house. The children did not see their mother after getting home from school.  Pearson is the father of the 1-year-old child.

When Rachel Watson’s body was discovered around 10pm that evening, the children were in the house but were not aware that a problem had occurred.

Pearson was taken into custody around 8:30am on October 23rd, 2014 near Grand River and Bagley in Detroit.

Jamie Pearson has been video arraigned in 34th District Court on a First Degree Murder charge.  He is accused of murdering Rachel Watson by strangling her to death.

A not guilty plea has been entered on his behalf and he is being held without bond at the Wayne County Jail.  His preliminary examination will be November 6th, 2014 in Westland.
