KALKASKA, MI – A Kalkaska County man is locked up after allegedly murdering his soon-to-be ex-wife and her father. He then is accused of taking another person hostage.
All of this unfolded on Tuesday evening, November 18th, 2014 in Kalkaska County.
Tiffany Ferguson had filed for divorce against Keith Allen Ferguson in September and those proceeding had not been finalized.
Keith Allen Ferguson, 40-years-old, is accused of going to 42-year-old Tiffany Ferguson’s home in the 4700 block of Northwood Lane in Coldsprings Township and killing her.
He then took their children to her father’s home in the 2400 block of County Road 571 in Excelsior Township where he also murdered 63-year-old James Webber in front of his four children.
The couple’s children ran to a near-by home close their grandfather’s residence to report that Webber and their mother, Tiffany Ferguson, had been shot by their father Keith Ferguson. That neighbor just so happened to be a Kalkaska County Sheriff’s Deputy. That deputy called 911 about 7 p.m.
Ferguson then fled where he ended up breaking into a residence in the 4800 block of Golden Road in Orange Township. He then allegedly called 911 stating he that he had taken someone hostage. He warned he would shoot those officers who were responding to the crisis, police said.
Authorities responded to all three addresses. The Northern Michigan Mutual Aid response team responded to help at the Golden Road address where Ferguson was hold up. He kept authorities in a standoff for about seven hours.
Authorities state that he was wearing body armor, was in possession of multiple weapons and had explosives in his possession.
Keith Ferguson had taken 59-year-old Kathryn McCauley hostage during the ordeal. Ferguson nor McCauley knew of each other prior to the incident. She was eventually released unharmed and he was taken into custody.
Ferguson is charged with two counts of homicide, two counts of 1st degree home invasion, one count of kidnapping, one count of wearing body armor during commission of violent crime, one count of possession of bombs with unlawful intent as well as five counts of weapons felony firearm charges.
During his arraignment on Wednesday, November 19th, 2014 he was very uncooperative and was also making obscene gestures while in the courtroom.
According to court records, Keith Ferguson admitted to a domestic violence charge in 1999.
The judge set his bond at $10 million. Ferguson is currently on suicide watch in the Kalkaska County jail.
