Sanilac County ‘Shop with a Hero’ a Huge Success !

SANILAC COUNTY, MI – All to often there are the stories of sad or hopeless situations of what our police and fire personnel have to go through in the line of duty.  Today is not one of those days.SHOP WITH A HERO

Tuesday, December 2nd, 2014 the Sanilac County Sheriff’s Office held their 4th Annual “Shop With A Hero” event.

They were able to help 20 families this Christmas season with a total of 90 people. “It was great to see our everyday Hero’s volunteer yet again to make a child’s day and holiday season special.”

Children from around Sanilac County are selected by the Department of Human Services. Before shopping they were provided a dinner of pizza and bread sticks donated by Pizza Hut to the children and volunteers. They always say it’s not good to shop on an empty stomach! Pepsi donated the drinks and North Branch bakery also donated their famous cookies!

After dinner the children paired up with their Hero and headed out on the Walmart floor to shop for their family members. After checking out with their final selection of gifts, additional volunteers waited to wrap all of their goodies.

Sanilac County Hero’s this year volunteered from Applegate Fire Department, Croswell EMS, Croswell Police Department, Lexington Police Department, Marlette Police Department, Moore Township Fire Department, Michigan State Police, Sandusky Fire Department, Sandusky Police Department, and the Sanilac County Sheriff’s Office. Donations to make the event possible were provided by Walmart, Department of Human Services, the Cadillac House in Lexington, Argyle Fire Department, and Exchange State Bank.

They wish to thank you everyone that volunteered their time, resources, and donations! They are already looking forward to next year’s 5th Annual “Shop With A Hero!”
