Two injured in Three car crash in Cass County

JONES, MI –  The Cass County Sheriff’s Office investigated a three car crash on M-60 Hwy, just east of Jones, Newberg Twp, Cass County, Michigan on December 17th, 2014 at 7:23 am. police-investigation

Deputies found that three vehicles were east bound on M-60 Hwy when they crashed passing a Three Rivers Community School bus that had pulled over to the shoulder to allow traffic to overtake them after picking up students.The first vehicle in the crash was driven by Joseph Letizia, 54-yrs-old of Granger, Indiana. Letizia did not suffer any injuries and his vehicle received minor damage in the crash.

The second vehicle was driven by Nicholas Zonker, 23-yrs-old of Elkhart, Indiana. Zonker declined treatment at the scene. Zonker’s vehicle had damage to both the front and rear of the vehicle.

The third vehicle was driven by Ryan Rosalee Deckard, 29-yrs-old of Cassopolis, Michigan. Deckard had her 5-yr-old daughter with her in a car seat at the time of the crash. Deckard and her child were transported from the scene to Three Rivers Hospital, where Deckard was then airlifted to Kalamazoo for further treatment.

Initial investigation shows that Deckard failed to slow or stop for the traffic in front of her, striking Zonker’s vehicle and pushing him into Letizia. Deckard then left the road and struck a tree on the north side of M-60.

The school bus and its passengers were not involved in the crash.

Seat-belts and child car seat were used by all involved. Alcohol was not a factor in the crash.

Deputies were assisted by Newberg Fire/Ambulance and Three Rivers Ambulance.
