GRAND RAPIDS, MI – The Kent County Sheriff’s Department issued the following update to an armed robbery and shooting that occurred on December 21st, 2014.
On December 21st, 2014, Kent County Sheriff Department (KCSD) Deputies responded to a shooting that occurred in the area of 76th Street SE and South Division Avenue in Gaines Township.
KCSD was contacted after the victim showed up at an area hospital suffering from a single gunshot wound to his lower back. The victim and an additional witness were interviewed and they cooperated with the investigation.
KCSD detectives learned that the Gaines Township shooting appeared to be related to the shooting that occurred in the early morning hours on Emperor Avenue NW in the City of Grand Rapids. KCSD detectives were able to develop suspects in both cases. The Kent County Sheriff Department and Grand Rapids Police Department (GRPD) worked a joint investigation into the shootings.
On December 22nd, 2014, a search warrant was executed in the 1300 block of Jennette Avenue NW utilizing the Grand Rapids Police Department Special Response Team.
Two subjects were taken into custody and brought in for questioning by KCSD/GRPD Detectives. Both subjects have since been lodged at the Kent County Correctional Facility. A third subject was arrested on December 23rd, 2014 and lodged at Kent County Juvenile Detention.
All subjects were lodged on charges related to both shootings. The investigation is ongoing and detectives will be meeting with the Kent County Prosecutor’s Office today for authorization of a variety of charges.
Two (2) 17 year old males from Grand Rapids.
One (1) 16 year old juvenile male from Grand Rapids.
No further information to be released at this time pending arraignment, which will not likely take place before Wednesday, December 24th, 2014.
