ALPENA, MI – An Alpena area man is facing several felony charges after he created a six hour standoff with police on December 26th, 2014.
Authorities were initially called to Long Lake Park Road just before 11 p.m. on Friday concerning an individual who was said to be suicidal.
Deputies were notified that the 56-year-old male subject had a rifle and planned to shoot the first police officers he saw on his property.
Michigan State Police, Northern Michigan Mutual Aid Emergency Response and the Alpena County Sheriff’s Department responded to the incident. The SWAT team is composed of local and county officers from northern Michigan police departments.
Authorities were able to establish contact with the subject. He did finally surrender to authorities near 5am on Saturday, December 27th ,2014. No one was injured during the standoff.
Multiple loaded firearms were seized from the residence.
Several felony charges are pending review by the county prosecutor’s office.
Deputies were assisted at the scene by Alpena Township Fire Department, and the Alpena Power Company.
