ALPENA, MI – Here is a chance for the Alpena community receive a grant to help the George N. Fletcher Public Library located in downtown Alpena.
The library was selected as one of five finalists to receive a Michigan Digital Newspaper Grant administered through the Clarke Historical Library.
The $2,500 grant award will help improve access to a winning Michigan newspaper.
The George N. Fletcher Public Library in Alpena is competing in the top five spots along with the Ionia Community Library, Huron Valley History Initiative, Bayliss Public Library in Sault Ste. Marie, and the Traverse Area District Library.
If Alpena wins, the funds will be used for scanning and placing online the Alpena News 1899-1910 and Michigan Labor Journal 1884-1890.
The community is encouraged to vote via Twitter using ?#?DigAlpena? in posts next week. Each tweet equals one vote. Voting will run from January 19th to January 25th, 2015.
Voting can also be done by sending a picture postcard, equals 100 votes, to the Clarke Historical Library, Central Michigan University, Mount Pleasant, Mich., 48859. Postcards will be available at the library.
