KALAMAZOO, MI – An adult entertainment business went up in flames on Wednesday afternoon, February 18th, 2015, in Kalamazoo. Police have taken a man into custody on an arson charge for that fire.
On Wednesday, February 18, 2015, at approximately 4:45 P.M., Kalamazoo Public Safety responded to 3307 S. Westnedge Avenue regarding reports of smoke and flames coming from the rear of the business known as Hollywood Nights. Upon arrival the business was found to be fully involved. The business is a total loss.
An alert citizen in the area was able to provide the description of a person fleeing the area in a vehicle. A short time later a second citizen observed a suspicious subject trying to dispose of an axe in a dumpster in Comstock. The subject was driving a vehicle similar to the one described by the first witness.
A deputy from the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Department observed the suspect vehicle leaving Merrill Park in Comstock. The deputy attempted to stop the vehicle and it fled. The pursuit ended at the intersection of Riverview and Hotop in the City of Kalamazoo when the suspect lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a snow bank. The suspect was arrested without further incident.
The suspect is a 41 year old Kalamazoo County Resident. He has been arrested for arson and is being held at the Kalamazoo County Jail awaiting arraignment. At this time there is no known connection between the suspect and the business or its owners.
