MECOSTA COUNTY, MI – A 27-year-old woman from Cadillac was killed in an early morning car crash on Friday, February 20th, 2015.
The Mecosta County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a traffic accident with injuries on northbound U.S. 131 at 2:11am Friday morning.
Upon arriving at the scene, deputies found that a semi had broken down and was pulled to the side of the roadway. While parked on the side of the road, a passenger vehicle driven by Timothy Herlein, 42-years-old, of Manton, had run into the rear-end of the tractor-trailer. The vehicle then rolled over after hitting the trailer of that semi, ejecting Herlein’s passenger.
Megan Raven, 27-years-old, of Cadillac, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Herlein was transported to Spectrum Health Big Rapids and then was transferred with life-threatening injuries to Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids where he was listed in fair condition late Friday evening.
The driver of the semi was not injured.
The Mecosta County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Big Rapids Fire Department, Big Rapids Township Fire Department and Mecosta County EMS.
The crash remains under investigation by the Mecosta County Sheriff’s Office.
