KASSON TOWNSHIP, MI – The Leelanau County Sheriff’s Office arrested a suspect after a traffic stop in Kasson Township.
On Sunday, October 18th, 2015, at 12:43 a.m., a Sheriff’s Deputy on patrol in the Village of Cedar observed a vehicle missing a headlamp. The deputy pulled over on Co.Rd. 651 to let the vehicle drive by but then realized the vehicle had went west on Bellinger Road towards Maple City. It took until Hill Street just outside of Maple City for the Deputy to catch the 2005 black Ford Focus. A traffic stop was made and the driver, driving without a license with her, gave the deputy her name.
The deputy suspected alcohol was involved upon contact with the driver. An investigation was conducted and the female driver was placed under arrest for operating while intoxicated. At this time, it was learned she had given the deputy a false name and her true identity showed she had two prior drunk driving convictions and her driving privileges had been revoked.
The driver, a 46 year old woman from Maple City, was lodged in the Leelanau County Jail for felony drunk driving, giving false information to a police officer and driving on a revoked driver’s license. She has prior alcohol driving convictions in 2006 and 2007.
