M-1 Rail officials announced late Monday that the public will have to wait indefinitely to learn the official name of the project.

Quicken Loans bought the naming rights to the project after Quicken Founder Dan Gilbert contributed about $10 million to the project. The new rail line is expected to be up and running in 2017.

Gilbert has been the $137 million streetcar project’s co-chairman, along with Roger Penske, nearly since its 2008 inception.

The M-1 Rail Line, also known as the Woodward Avenue Streetcar by the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is a streetcar line under construction, to run along M-1 (Woodward Avenue) in Detroit.
