MANCELONA, MI – The Antrim County Sheriffs’ Office has arrested a 17-year-old male and he has been charged with assault with intent to rob while armed, which is a felony and carries a maximum of life in prison or any term of years.
On Sunday, December 6th, 2015, at approximately 1:42 p.m., while walking along the Darragh Road, the victim Steven Thompson, 32-years-old, was approached by a male and asked if the victim had any cigarettes, cell phone or money on him.
Thompson told the subject that he did not have anything on him and the male suspect told the victim that he was about to be robbed.
The suspect the pulled a black pistol out, cocked it and put into Steven Thompson’s face. At first Thompson thought the weapon was real. As he looked at it, he noticed the muzzle had a small diameter and realize it to be a BB pistol.
Thompson turned to walk away when he was shot once in his arm and 3 times in his back. The suspect then walked up a driveway where a blue dumpster and brush were located.
The Antrim County Sheriff deputy responded to the call and notices a subject standing at the top of the driveway that matched the description given by the victim.
The suspect is identified as Randy Allan Hiatt, 17-year-old, of Mancelona. He was positively identified by the victim as the person that shot him.
The weapon was located in a dresser drawer in Hiatt’s bedroom, where he lived and was last seen standing in a driveway. Hiatt was arrest without incident. He is currently being held at the Antrim County Jail on $250,000 cash/surety bond.
