MONROE TOWNSHIP, MI – Monroe County Sheriff Dale Malone is reporting the arrest of a 33-year-old female, Monroe Township resident for Felonious Assault and Child Endangerment.
On Friday, April 8th, 2016, shortly after 11:00 p.m., Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Deputies were dispatched to the 800 block of Westwood Dr, Monroe Township in regards to a Weapons Complaint involving shots fired.
A neighbor also reported that he heard the gunshot and arguing coming from his next door neighbors house. When he went to investigate he found that the bullet had entered into his home from the next door neighbors residence and came to rest on the floor of his enclosed porch.
Monroe County Sheriff’s Deputies made numerous attempts at trying to make contact with the occupants of the suspects home however the attempts were unsuccessful. Deputies then began to treat the scene as a barricaded gunman situation fearing for the safety and well being of the occupants inside. It was also learned by speaking with neighbors that a 7-year-old girl also lived in the residence.
Deputy Tim George responded to the scene with the Monroe County Special Response Team’s “Bear Cat” Armored Vehicle. Utilizing the Bear Cat, Deputies were able to get close to the home and were able to use the Loud Speaker to make verbal commands for the occupants of the home to exit. After several commands were given the 33-year-old female suspect exited the home and was taken into custody. The 33-year-old then relayed to the arresting Deputies that her boyfriend and daughter were uninjured in the home and were now sleeping in bed. Deputies then made entry into the home to check on the well being of the others inside and found the boyfriend and 7-year-old child to be uninjured.
Through the investigation it was determined that 33-year-old female resident of the Westwood St address got into a verbal dispute with her live in boyfriend and produced a handgun. She then began to raise the gun towards him and their 7-year-old daughter. The boyfriend fearing for his and his daughter’s lives went to try to disarm the suspect and at that time the suspect fired a single shot from the gun missing both subjects. The boyfriend then took possession of the gun and separated himself and his daughter from the suspect and remained in separate areas of the home however no one from the residence itself actually called 911 for help.
The 33-year-old female suspect was lodged at the Monroe County Jail for Felonious Assault and Child Endangerment Charges. Her identity is being withheld pending formal arraignment in 1st District Court.
This case remains under investigation by Deputies Broman, Mravec, Galloro, Cleland, Bender and Swiercz all of the Uniformed Services Division. Anyone with further information regarding this complaint is asked to contact Central Dispatch at 734-243-7070.
