16 yr old Cass County Girl Killed in Car Wreck

JEFFERSON TOWNSHIP, MI – A 16-year-old Cass County girl was killed on Tuesday, May 2nd, 2016 in a car wreck at about 11:40 a.m.Fatal Crash

A pick-up truck driven by Jeffrey Jackson, 25-years-old, from Niles, disregarded a stop sign as he was driving east bound on Pine Lake Street.  Jackson’s truck hit a north bound vehicle on Dailey Road driven by 16-year-old Makayla McKenzie of Edwardsburg. Her vehicle left the roadway and turned over, landing upside down. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two other passengers in the McKenzie vehicle were injured. Camryn Raab, 16-years-old, and Hannah Philpot, 16-years-old, both of Edwardsburg . They were to South Bend Memorial Hospital.

Jeffrey Jackson was also injured in the crash and hospitalized.

Alcohol and seat belt use are unknown at this time. The crash remains under investigation.
