SILVER CREEK TOWNSHIP, MI – Cass County Sheriff Joseph M Underwood Jr. reports on Thursday, May 28th, 2016, at approximately 8:10 pm, Deputies from the Cass County Sheriff Marine Division Responded to a 911 call on the East side of Dewey for a personal watercraft verses boat accident.
Upon arrival Deputies were able to determine through witness statements that the driver of the personal watercraft Joshua Glascott, 21-years-old, of Evergreen Pk, IL, was traveling at a high rate of speed in a clock wise manor when he lost control and struck several piers and a docked boat.
Deputies while conducting the investigation were able to determine speed and alcohol were factors in the accident. Glascott was arrested and lodged in the Cass County Jail for operating a watercraft under the influence of alcohol and cited for clockwise travel and no Boater Safety Certificate. No injuries were reported in the incident, Pride Care Ambulance, and Sister Lakes Fire assisted Deputies at the scene.
Sheriff Underwood reminds all vessel operators that the state of Michigan requires all Personal Watercraft operators born after December 31, 1978. That they are required to have on their person while operating a Boater Safety Certificate, and that anyone born after July 1, 1996 is required to posses a Boater Safety Certificate to operate any vessel on Michigan lakes.
