PORT HURON, MI – The Port Huron Police Department would like to remind residents that may be inclined to use fireworks during the upcoming 4th of July holiday to be mindful of their neighbors and utilize fireworks in a safe and legal manner.
City ordinance 34-333 allows for the safe use of consumer fireworks on the day before, the day of and the day after a national holiday. Fireworks use however is not allowed during the hours of 1am and 8am. Fireworks use must be on private property with the express permission of the property owner. A person who owns or is in charge of property who knowingly allows consumer fireworks to be used in violation of this ordinance can also be cited. Violation of this ordinance is a civil infraction punishable by a fine of up to $500.
A person using consumer fireworks while under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance is guilty of a misdemeanor punishable by up to 30 days in jail or a fine up to $500.
Officers will be issuing citations for those that choose to violate the ordinance. Safe and respectful use of fireworks during this holiday will allow everyone to have an enjoyable 4th of July!
