Child Struck and Killed by Jeep in Ottawa County

ZEELAND TOWNSHIP, MI – A 3-year-old child was hit and killed by a Jeep on Sunday, July 3rd, 2016, northeast of Zeeland.Sheriff

Ottawa County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the accident that occurred shortly after 3:00 p.m., on 64th Avenue just north of Quincy street, in Zeeland Township.

The preliminary investigation indicates Makenna Fraaza, of Zeeland Township, ran out into the road in front of a 2000 Jeep Sport. The driver of the Jeep was identified as Hugh Claver, 61-years-old, who was northbound on 64th Avenue.  Claver did swerve to avoid hitting the child but was unsuccessful.

Makenna was rushed to Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids. She was pronounced dead at approximately 5:30 p.m.

Authorities stated that speed nor alcohol were factors in the crash. The crash remains under investigation.
