DETROIT, MI – Mayor Mike Duggan was on hand with neighbors and other officials as demo crews knocked down the 10,000th vacant building since he started his blight removal program two-and-half years ago.
When the Mayor took office in January 2014 there were approximately 40,000 vacant structures that needed to be demolished.
The demolition took place at 9:30 a.m. at 14097 Marlowe Street on Tuesday, July 19th, 2016. The property is located near Intervale and Grand River Avenue on the city’s west side.
As soon as the first house on Marlow was down, the beginning of the next 10,000 was started two properties down when that house was demolished.
