Owosso Man Identified in Fatal I-96 Crash near Howell

HOWELL, MI – The Owosso man who was killed in a fatal accident on I-96 in Livingston County has been identified.Jacob Shofner

Jacob Shofner, 39-years-old, of Owosso, died Wednesday morning at the scene of the traffic crash on I-96.

The crash occurred at approximately 11:15 a.m. on westbound I-96, near Highland Road, in Howell Township.

According to a preliminary investigation by Michigan State Police, a 2016 Peterbilt semi truck and trailer, driven by a 25-year-old woman from Springfield, Missouri, was westbound on I-96 in the right lane when traffic slowed in front of her. She was able to slow down but was rear-ended by a 1998 GMC box truck driven by Shofner.

Jacob Shofner was pronounced dead at the scene.

Age 39 of Owosso passed away Wednesday, July 20, 2016.

Funeral Services will be held 1:00 pm Sunday, July 24, 2016 at Nelson-House Funeral Home with Pastor Cal Long officiating.  The family will receive friends at Nelson-House Funeral Home on Saturday from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm with the family being present from 2pm-4pm and 6pm-8pm.

Funeral arrangements were announced by Nelson-House Funeral Home.
