WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, MI – On Sunday morning, August 21st, 2016, at approximately 9:00 a.m., Macomb Sheriff deputies were dispatched to several residences on Waschull & Lake Edge Drive (in Washington Township) for a suspicious situation.
According to the callers, they had witnessed three individuals walking up to cars and pulling on the door handles.
The callers provided dispatchers with a description of the three individuals, and they related that the three were using cellphones to communicate with one another.
Deputies responded to the area and spoke to homeowners who reported that they were victims of larcenies and that cars had been entered and that they had had items stolen.
While one of the Sheriff deputies was taking a report from a homeowner, another deputy noticed a group of three individuals walking out of a residence on Waschull. The three matched the description of the three persons from the “suspicious” call that had been received an hour earlier.
Deputies detained the three persons and searched a backpack that one of the individuals was carrying, recovering property that had been taken from unlocked vehicles.
Deputies recovered a stolen wallet, credit cards, sunglasses, a knife, loose change and prescription drugs.
Two of the arrested men are from Washington Township (a 17 year old and a 21 year old), and the third arrest is of a 17 year old from Ray Township.
Deputies were able to return the stolen property to its rightful owners.
Deputies also determined that the three were houseguests of the homeowner on Waschull (whose home they were seen exiting).
