Detroit Police Sergeant Dies after being Shot

DETROIT, MI – It is with great sorrow that the Detroit Police Department must announce the passing of Sergeant Kenneth Steil, badge S-54, assigned to the Ninth Precinct.

Sergeant Steil succumbed to his injuries after he was shot in the line of duty on September 12, 2016, while attempting to arrest a suspect wanted for a previous shooting.

Sgt. Kenneth Steil was shot in the shoulder by a shotgun Monday after chasing 21-year-old Marquise Cromer, a man with reported mental health issues who was wanted for allegedly shooting his father and carjacking an 81-year-old man.

Sergeant Steil served the department and the citizens of the city of Detroit with great dedication, honor and exemplary service for over twenty-years.

The Detroit Police Department extends their deepest heartfelt sympathy to his family, friends and his brothers and sisters in blue. They ask that you would keep them all in your prayers and may he rest in peace.
