Suspect Arrested in Royal Oak after Home Invasion

ROYAL OAK, MI – A 22-year-old Hamtramck resident was arrested on Wednesday, October 12th, 2016 in connection with an overnight Home Invasion and Motor Vehicle theft.emmanuel-adam-charles

Early Wednesday morning, at 3:54 a.m., Royal Oak Police were called to a residence in the 1300 block of N. Altadena after the homeowner called 911 to report an unknown suspect just broke into his home. Officers quickly responded and learned the suspect entered the home while the resident was sleeping and stole several items. The sound of a skateboard falling down the stairs woke the resident and he went to investigate. Upon entering the kitchen of the home, the suspect was seen by the homeowner backing down the driveway in a mid-sized dark colored SUV. Officers canvassed the area, but were unable to initially locate the suspect or vehicle. The homeowner was not hurt during the incident.

At 6:49 a.m. later that morning, a resident in the 400 block of N. Minerva called to report his Black 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee was stolen at approximately 3:00 a.m. from his driveway. The Oakland County Curtail Auto Theft (C.A.T.) team comprised of officers from Oakland and Wayne Counties, including Royal Oak, located the suspect and stolen vehicle in Detroit.

The suspect was arrested and the stolen vehicle was recovered. Items stolen from the home on N. Altadena were also located inside the vehicle.

Emmanuel Adam Charles, 22-years-old, is charged with one (1) count of Home Invasion 1st degree which carries a sentence of up to 20 years in prison and one (1) count of Unlawfully Driving Away an Automobile which carries a sentence of up to five (5) years in prison.

On Thursday, October 13, 2016 at 10:00 a.m., Charles was arraigned by the Honorable Magistrate Chisholm from the 44th District. His bond was set at $100,000 cash/surety, no 10%. His next scheduled court date is Friday, October 21, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. in the 44th District Court before the Honorable Judge Meinecke.

Charles has prior felony convictions for Unlawfully Driving Away an Automobile, Fleeing & Eluding a Police Officer, Larceny from a Motor Vehicle, Receiving and Concealing Stolen Motor Vehicle, & Stealing/Retaining a Financial Transaction Device. In addition, Charles is currently wanted on an outstanding Felony warrant for Breaking & Entering.
