Suspect was taken into custody in the area of Grand River and Schaefer without incident.
On Friday, October 28th, 2016 at approximately 10:30p.m. Steven Guzina, 54-years-old, of Lincoln Park, was traveling in a dodge pick-up, struck the officer who responded to the location to assist with a traffic investigation which resulted in an arrest. Guzina exited his vehicle and fled on foot in an unknown direction.
DPD found a brown leather coat at Livernois & Puritan at about 2:00 a.m. that may be connected to Steven Guzina.
The officer, Myron Jarrett, 40-years-old, was taken to Sinai-Grace Hospital following the crash.
Officer Jarrett was an eight-year veteran of the Detroit Police Department. He was a father of four. One of those children having special needs.
Detroit Mayor, Mike Duggan, posted to Facebook the following statement:
Our thoughts and prayers go out today to the family of Ofc. Myron Jarrett, the fallen DPD officer who lost his life last night while serving and protecting our city. Our hearts also are with his DPD family. Despite the grief they are feeling today, the men and women of the Detroit Police Department responded quickly and professionally to locate and arrest the person responsible for Officer Jarrett’s death.
