Battle Creek Police Rescue Man after Car Plunges into River

BATTLE CREEK, MI – A man is lucky to be alive after his car plunged into the Kalamazoo River in Battle Creek early Sunday morning.battle-creek-police-cruiser

On November 13th, 2016, at approximately 12:45 am, officers with the Battle Creek Police Dept. responded to a report of a single car accident in the area of Dickman Rd and Capital Ave SW.

A witness stated that a vehicle left the roadway and went into the Kalamazoo River. Further information revealed that the vehicle was occupied by one male subject. When officers arrived on scene, the occupant was out of the vehicle and was observed floating down the river. At that time the occupant could be heard yelling that he could not swim and felt that his ankle was broken. Several officers surrounded the area in an attempt to find a place to pull the subject out of the water. One Battle Creek Officer was able to get into position, go into the water and rescue the man by pulling him to the riverbank. The injured man was transported to Bronson Battle Creek for treatment.

The accident is currently under investigation.
