Pontiac Man Charged with Murder of Wife

PONTIAC, MI – On Wednesday, January 18th, 2017,  at 11:11 pm,  Oakland County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a 911 call to the 600 block of E. Beverly in the City of Pontiac for a Domestic Disturbance.

The caller indicated there was a possible assault with a hammer and the incident took place upstairs.  Once Deputies arrived on scene they found a male subject outside, the husband of the victim, who indicated the victim was upstairs and he had hit her with a hammer.

Deputies found a woman in an upstairs bedroom who was unresponsive and had severe head trauma.

STAR EMS transported the woman to McLaren Oakland Hospital for treatment where she remained in critical condition.

The husband was transported back to the Substation.

The house was secured for the OCSO Forensic Lab and Detectives responded to continue with investigation.

The subject indicated he and his wife were getting a divorce and she wanted money to be able to move.  The subject then stated that he didn’t want to give her any money and they argued, which lead to him hitting her in the head multiple times with the hammer.

The man was transported to OCJ pending presentation to the Prosecutor’s office for a warrant.

On January 31, 2017, at 6:50PM, Karen Leanna Johnson was pronounced dead. The Oakland County Medical Examiner’s Office has ruled the death a homicide. OCSO  requested that the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office to amend the Assault with Intent to Murder warrant to a Murder charge.

On Friday, February 3rd, 2017, Patrick Lee Johnson, was arraigned in front of the Honorable Judge Preston Thomas in the 50th District Court on the amended charge of “Open Murder” issued by the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office. Mr. Johnson was ordered held with “No Bond”. The next scheduled court date is February 14, 2017.

This is the first homicide in Pontiac in 2017.
