Baby Girl Dies in Suspicious Circumstances in Oakland County

PONTIAC, MI – Oakland County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the Emergency Room at McLaren Hospital – Oakland for a 20 month old baby girl who was the victim of a fall on Wednesday, March 29th, 2017, at approximately 9:45 p.m.

Upon arrival, Deputies made contact with the victim’s mother who stated that the infant, Jazzabelle Fernandez, was in the care of her boyfriend at the time of the incident. The 24-year-old boyfriend had called the child’s mother and told her that the child had injured herself by falling down the stairs. The child’s mother returned home and found the child at the bottom of the stairs and her boyfriend was administering CPR. The mother transported the child to McLaren Hospital – Oakland for medical treatment.

Deputies responded to the victim’s residence located in the 200 block of W. Howard Street to secure the scene. Deputies met with the boyfriend who was still at the residence. He was transported to the Pontiac Substation by Deputies where he spoke to Detectives regarding the incident. The child was transported from McLaren Hospital to Royal Oak Beaumont where she was pronounced deceased by the attending physician. The OCSO Forensic Science Lab responded to process the scene. An autopsy was performed on Thursday and the cause of death is pending. Detectives are continuing the investigation.
