73 yr old Man Killed in House Fire in Monroe County

BEDFORD TOWNSHIP, MI – On Monday, April 3, 2017 at approximately 10:20 PM, deputies from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office and members of the Bedford Township Fire Department responded to Northtowne Meadows Mobile Home Community at 6255 S Telegraph Road on a structure fire with an elderly subject trapped inside. 

Deputies arrived on scene and discovered the mobile home was engulfed with flames. Deputies located and assisted the 63-year-old female homeowner from the front porch to safety. The female’s husband, a 73-year-old man, was trapped inside. Firefighters were able to make entry into the home and discovered the man deceased in the living room area.

The woman was taken to a Toledo area hospital by Monroe Community Ambulance for precautionary measures.

Witnesses reported loud explosions coming from the home. The preliminary investigation reveals the home was equipped with oxygen tanks.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by members of the Monroe County Fire Investigation Team and detectives from the Sheriff’s Office. Anyone with information is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau at 734-240-7530.
