ERIE TOWNSHIP, MI – Sheriff Dale Malone is reporting a deadly traffic crash that occurred on Summit Street, north of Morin Grove Street, in Erie Township.
Preliminary investigation reveals that Jill M. Trowbridge, 52-years-old, of Erie, was operating a black in color 2014 Ford Focus southbound on Summit Street. For unknown reasons, Mrs. Trowbridge ran off the roadway to the west. The vehicle re-entered the roadway and crossed all five lanes of travel. The vehicle then ran off the roadway to the east, overturned, and crashed into the North Maumee Bay.
A member of the Morin Point Fire Department was able to free Jill Trowbridge from her vehicle and bring her to shore. Monroe Community Ambulance transported her to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center, in Toledo, Ohio, where she was listed in critical condition.
Mrs. Trowbridge died as a result of injuries suffered in the crash. Mrs. Trowbridge’s death was pronounced just before 10:30 p.m. on Friday, April 7th, 2017, while admitted to St. Vincent’s Mercy Hospital in Toledo, Ohio.
Mrs. Trowbridge was not wearing a safety belt at the time of the crash.
Speed appears to be a factor in the crash, however it is unknown if alcohol was a factor.
Monroe Community Ambulance and the Morin Point Fire Department assisted at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation by Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Services Division. Anyone with information regarding the crash is asked to call 734-240-7711.
