Benton Harbor Murder Victim Identified

BENTON HARBOR, MI – Benton Harbor authorities have released the name of the shooting victim from Friday evening.

The victim has been identified as John Conyers, 30-years-old, originally from Tampa, Florida.  Conyers had been residing in Benton Harbor for roughly 6 months employed locally and staying at the Salvation Army.

An autopsy was completed on Saturday, April 8th, 2017, at Spectrum Health in Grand Rapids. The death was ruled homicide by gunfire.

The shooting occurred on Friday, April 7th, 2017, at approximately 7:50 PM. Benton Harbor Police Officers were dispatched to 233 Michigan Street for a complaint of a 30-year-old Benton Harbor man that was wounded by gunfire.

BHDPS officers responded and found John Conyers had been severely wounded by gunfire. Conyers was taken to Lakeland Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
