Laser shined at MSP Trooper while driving to Accident on I-94 [Updated]

DETROIT, MI – Michigan State Police arrested a man after he allegedly pointed a hand held laser at a trooper.

At approximately 8:00 pm on Friday April 14th, 2017, a trooper was on east bound on I-94 near West Grand Boulevard, when the passenger of a westbound vehicle shined a laser into his eyes.

Troopers were able to call out the suspect vehicle description and the vehicle was located by troopers, they retrieved the laser and arrested the suspect.

The suspect, a 32 year old man from Roseville, will be arraigned on Sunday, April 16th, 2017 at the Detroit Detention Center for Assault with a Dangerous Weapon and Police Officer Assault/Resist/Obstruct.

His name is being withheld pending his arraignment.

“A handheld laser is not a toy! Metro South troopers have a male in custody for shining a laser at a trooper that was driving to a crash.”

“Luckily his partner was able to identify the suspect. The trooper has been transported to a hospital with vision problems and headache.”

“Update on the trooper involved. His vision has returned and he has been cleared. Other than a serious headache he should be back to work.”
