Warrant being sought for Driver who fled from MSP in Detroit

DETROIT, MI – On Saturday April 15th, 2017, at approximately 11:05 p.m., Michigan State Police troopers assigned to the Metro South Post, attempted to stop a motor vehicle for speed and open intoxicants.

The trooper had observed drinking inside the vehicle on the John C. Lodge Freeway northbound in the city of Detroit.

Upon activation of emergency lighting the vehicle continued on the Lodge and exited at Livernois before gaining speed in an attempt to flee troopers. The vehicle was traveling approximately 60 MPH when it lost control and sideswiped a traffic pole and was struck by another motorist in the intersection of the Lodge service drive at McNichols Avenue. The vehicle that struck the suspect vehicle failed to stop and fled the scene. The driver of the suspect vehicle jumped out of the car and fled on foot.

Troopers rendered first aid to a second occupant of the suspect vehicle instead of pursuing the driver on foot.

Further investigation has identified the driver and a packet seeking a warrant for fleeing and eluding has been sent to the Wayne County Prosecutors office.

The male occupant in the suspect car was treated at the scene for minor injuries and released. The investigation is pending prosecutor review.
