Drugs Seized in Lapeer County suspected Child Abuse Investigation

NORTH BRANCH, MI – Lapeer County Sheriff’s Deputy Troy Covert was assigned to investigating a suspect child abuse/neglect complaint that occurred within the Village of North Branch.

Based upon facts and information from the alleged abuse/neglect investigation, Deputy Covert and numerous other Lapeer County Sheriff’s Deputies executed a search warrant for illicit narcotics at a residence within the Village of North Branch during the morning hours of Friday April 14th, 2017.

Deputies seized suspected heroin, heroin associated paraphernalia such as charred spoons, and illegal marijuana. The illegal narcotics were associated to a 19 year old that resides within the residence.

The suspect abuse/neglect remains under investigation by the Lapeer County Sheriff’s Office and Department of Health and Human Service (Child Protective Services). The illegal narcotics investigation aspect will be presented in the near future to the Lapeer County Prosecutor’s Office for formal criminal charges.
