WEESAW TOWNSHIP, MI – On Thursday, April 20th, 2017 Troopers from the Michigan State Police Niles Post were called to investigate a suspected child abuse incident that had taken place in Weesaw Township.
The preliminary investigation indicates the 3 month old infant sustained critical injuries to the skull. As a result, the child was treated at Lakeland Hospital in St. Joseph for those injuries and was later transferred to Helen Devos Childrens Hospital in Grand Rapids for further evaluation. This morning Pediatric ICU reports the baby is in stable condition.
A suspect was identified in the initial investigation and an arrest was made upon authorization of the Berrien County prosecutor’s office. The 33 year old suspect was charged with Child Abuse, Assault and a Probation Violation.
The investigation is on-going and no further information is available at this time.
