Off-Duty Wayne County Sheriff’s Deputy Charged in Fatal Car Crash

DETROIT, MI – Wayne County Deputy Sheriff Matthew John Doss, 36-years-old, has been charged in connection with a fatal car crash in Lincoln Park.

It is alleged that on October 23, 2016 at approximately 10:25 p.m., Doss was off-duty driving his truck at Dix and Detroit Avenue in Lincoln Park when he struck Henry Lowe, 56-years-old, of Lincoln Park, who was seated in the front passenger seat in a car driven by a friend.

Mr. Lowe was severely injured in the crash and was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries on October 24, 2016.  An investigation was conducted by the Downriver Crash Response Team and it is further alleged that Doss was travelling over the speed limit at the time of the crash.

Doss has been charged with Reckless Driving Causing Death  which carries a15 year maximum penalty.*  Doss will turn himself in to be processed on Monday, May 1, 2017 and will be arraigned at 10:30 a.m. in 25th District Court in Lincoln Park.
