86 yr old Man Killed in Midland County Vehicle Crash

LEE TOWNSHIP, MI – The Midland County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a two vehicle fatal traffic crash that claimed the life of an 86-year-old Greendale Township man.

The incident occurred at the intersection of South 11 Mile Road and West Prairie Road in Lee Township at approximately 1:52pm on May 28, 2017.

Our investigation indicates that the driver, William Jeffries, age 86, was headed westbound on West Prairie Road in a tan 2004 Buick Rainier. Mr. Jeffries failed to stop for a stop sign at South 11 Mile Road. The Buick was then struck by a white 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe that was headed northbound on South 11 Mile Road. The driver of the Chevy was Kaitlyn Tyler, age 21. Both drivers were transported to the Mid Michigan Medical Center for injuries sustained in the crash. Mr. Jeffries was later pronounced deceased.

The incident remains under investigation. While there is no evidence to indicate that alcohol or drugs may have been a factor in this crash, we are waiting for toxicology reports for a final determination. Once the investigation is complete, a report will be sent to the Midland County Prosecutor for review.

The Midland County Sheriff’s Office were assisted at the scene by Lee Township Fire Rescue and Mid Michigan EMS.
