Motorcycle Collides with Semi in Livingston County

BRIGHTON TOWNSHIP, MI – On Monday July 31st, 2017, at approximately 12:02 P.M., Deputies with the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to eastbound I-96 and Kensington Road in Brighton Township for a report of a motorcycle vs semi accident.

The preliminary investigation has revealed that a 52-year-old Elmira resident was merging onto eastbound I 96 from Kensington Road on his 2005 Harley Davidson Motorcycle. The driver of the motorcycle failed to yield to a 1999 Peterbilt semi operated by a 65-year-old Norwalk Ohio resident traveling eastbound on I 96. The Elmira resident struck the trailer and was ejected from the motorcycle. He was transported to the University of Michigan Hospital by Livingston County Ambulance with life threatening injuries. Two lanes remained closed for approximately 3 hours during the investigation.

Alcohol and speed do not appear to be factors in the crash while helmet use remains under investigation. The accident remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office Traffic Safety Unit.

Deputies were assisted at the scene by personnel from the Brighton Area Fire Department, Livingston County EMS, and the Hamburg Township Police Department.
