Troopers End High Speed Chase Safely with Arrest in Kalkaska County

KALKASKA COUNTY, MI – Michigan State Police (MSP) Houghton Lake Post troopers initiated a traffic stop on US-131 near Boardman Road in Kalkaska County for a speed violation.

The stop occurred at approximately 11:58AM, on Sunday August 6th, 2017, after troopers noted the vehicle was traveling at 83 mph in a posted 55 mph zone. As troopers approached the vehicle the driver fled initiating a pursuit lasting approximately 31 miles. Troopers from the MSP Gaylord Post assisted by safely deploying Stop Sticks. The device successfully and safely deflated the tires of the fleeing vehicle.

The driver was subsequently taken into custody without incident or injury. The driver was identified as a man from Grand Rapids, Michigan. He was lodged in the Kalkaska County Jail on charges including Felony Flee and Elude, Driving While License Suspended second offense, and a felony fugitive charge for Carrying a Concealed Weapon (Kent County Warrant).
