Suspected Drunk Driver causes Crash with Macomb County Sheriff’s Patrol Vehicle

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, MI – While responding to a call for service, a 17 year veteran of the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office was injured when his patrol vehicle struck another vehicle a 2010 Ford Edge.

The Deputy was traveling south bound on Vandyke when he struck a vehicle traveling west bound on 29 Mile Rd in the intersection. The deputy was transported by ambulance to Troy Beaumont Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

The 2 occupants of the 2010 Ford Edge were not injured. Upon further investigation it was determined that the driver of the 2010 Ford Edge was intoxicated and proceeded through a red light, failing to yield for the deputy who was approaching the intersection. The driver of the vehicle was a 27 yr old female from Sterling Heights who was taken into custody. The female driver completed a Data Master Breath Test which determined her having a .12 BAC.

Macomb County Sheriff’s Office Crash Investigation Unit (C.I.U.) responded and conducted their investigation of the crash scene. Investigation is ongoing at this time.
