Deputies Injured while pursuing Suspects in Oakland County

ROCHESTER HILLS, MI – Oakland County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the 2800 block of Rochester Rd. for a retail fraud that had just occurred at the TJ Maxx store on Sunday October 15th, 2017 at about 5:00pm.

A citizen was attempting to prevent the suspect vehicle from leaving by blocking the vehicle’s path. Dispatch advised that the suspect vehicle was able to get away and had fled northbound on Rochester Rd.

Deputies located a gray 2006 Dodge Charger traveling northbound on S. Rochester Rd near Hampton Circle. Deputies observed the suspect vehicle being driven erratically. Deputies activated their emergency vehicle warning lights and signaled to the driver to stop. Deputies blocked the vehicle in at John R. and Hamlin Rd.

The vehicle was stopped and the driver was taken into custody.

Two passengers fled the vehicle and ran westbound on Hamlin Road into a wooded area. One suspect was apprehended in the wooded area after a short foot pursuit. The Deputy who pursued that suspect injured his knee during the pursuit and was transported to Ascension-Crittenton Hospital for treatment.

The other suspect ran into the wooded area and was apprehended as he ran across John R Road. A second Deputy sustained minor injuries to his shoulder and had cut his hand on a razor blade that was concealed in the suspect’s pocket. The Deputy transported himself to Ascension-Crittenton Hospital for treatment.

A Detective responded to continue with the investigation. The three suspects had committed multiple retail frauds at various stores in the Hampton Village Center located in the 2800 block of Rochester Rd. All three suspects were lodged at the Oakland County Jail pending the issuance of criminal charges. The suspect vehicle was impounded as evidence and also found to have a fraudulent temporary registration tag. The incident remains under investigation.

One Deputy has been placed off work due to his knee injury. The second Deputy was cleared to return to work.

Arrested during the incident was a 28 year old man from Northville, a 53 year old man from Redford Township and 42 year old man from Warren.
