ROCHESTER HILLS, MI – The new owner of a recently purchased car had reported the vehicle stolen only to learn later that the thief was the previous owner of the vehicle.
On Monday October 16th, 2017, the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Operations Center received a phone call from the victim of a previously reported stolen automobile. The victim reported that she had recently purchased a vehicle and that it had been stolen on October 6th, 2017 from the City of Pontiac.
To the victim’s surprise, she discovered that the previous owner had taken the vehicle back after it had been purchased. The victim discovered that the vehicle was being moved to an address in the 3100 block of Eastern Avenue in the City of Rochester Hills.
Oakland County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the area of eastern Avenue to look for the vehicle. They located the vehicle traveling on Eastern Avenue near Sibley Street. Deputies initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle. They identified the driver and he was taken into custody. The suspect was transported back to the Rochester Hills Substation to speak with Detectives from the Auto Theft Unit. The recovered stolen vehicle was impounded as evidence.
Detectives are continuing with the investigation.
