On October 21st, 2017, Oakland County Sheriff’s Deputies and the Waterford Regional Fire Department responded to a report of a hit and run pedestrian personal injury crash. The crash occurred near the intersection of University Drive and Melrose Street. The pedestrian had been crossing from the south side of University Drive when he was struck by a full size extended cab Chevrolet pickup truck that was traveling eastbound on University Drive. The pickup truck struck the pedestrian while he was in the through lanes of traffic and after striking the pedestrian the vehicle fled east on University Drive until it was seen turning north onto Kenilworth Street.
Paramedics arrived on the scene. Paramedics transported the pedestrian to McLaren Hospital – Oakland where he was pronounced deceased. The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Unit responded to assist with the crash investigation.
Alcohol and/or drug use is unknown at this time regarding both the pedestrian and the hit and run driver. The crash remains under investigation.
The Chevrolet extended cab pickup truck is possibly tan or silver in color and is reported to have a passenger side tail light out and the pickup truck will have sustained damage to the front driver’s side head light assembly.
The Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s assistance. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP. There is a cash reward of up to $2,500 for information leading to an arrest . You will remain anonymous.
