Oakland County Sheriff releases Aerial Video of Large Fire Scene in Orion Township [Video]

ORION TOWNSHIP, MI – The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office today released aerial video of the site in Orion Township where the massive gas line fire started on Monday November 20th, 2017.

In the video a large crater can be seen where the gas line ruptured. The explosion and blast area encompasses roughly 30-40 yards around the crater. The blast exposed about 30 feet of the 22 inch natural gas line creating a crater 18 feet deep.

The fire near Brown and Joslyn roads could be seen from miles away.

A 22-inch diameter steel gas transmission line reportedly ruptured, causing the explosion and fire. Consumers Energy inspected the site of the ruptured gas line and surrounding area and found nothing suspicious or unusual relating to an intentional act.

No injuries were reported from the explosion and fire that began just before 10:00pm.

All 911 and non-emergency 10 digit telephone services at the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office and countywide PSAPs have been fully restored after they were knocked out from the explosion.
