NORTH LAUDERDALE PARK, FL – Two people have been placed under arrest after a Detroit man was found burned to death inside of a car on Tuesday, November 14th, 2017.
Johntavis McCoe, 26-years-old, and Rougiena Deriveire, 18-years-old, are lodged in the Broward County jail facing first-degree murder charges in the death of Darren Butler, 27-years-old, of Detroit.
When firefighters extinguished the flames, at about 5:00AM, from the car in North Lauderdale’s Bicentennial Park, located at 6100 Kimberly Blvd., they discovered Darren Butler’s body inside.
Johntavis McCoe was already on probation after spending time in prison for armed robbery and two counts of possession of marijuana with intent to sell, distribute or manufacture based on records from the Florida Department of Corrections. He was released from prison in August of 2017.
Butler moved from Michigan to Florida in 2013. He was working as a dishwasher at YOLO Restaurant in Fort Lauderdale. He has a 3-month-old daughter who he leaves behind.
No motive has been released as to why Darren Butler was killed.
