On Thursday, at 4:25 p.m., Joshua Lowman, 24-years-old, was walking to the funeral home, located in the 10000 block of Mack Avenue, when the suspect, Perez Smith Jr., 28-years-old, produced a weapon and shot Lowman in the chest. Smith then used a maroon colored vehicle as his get away car.
Joshua Lowman was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
A SWAT team in Farrell, Pennsylvania used extreme methods to get inside of house on Hamilton Ave they believed that Perez Smith Jr, 28-years-old, had fled to from Michigan. Relatives of Smith lived in that home. The maroon colored Buick that he used to run from the murder scene was located in the backyard of that house.
A second house was also searched on Hamilton Ave in Farrell Pennsylvania for the suspect but he was not located there either.
Farrell, Pennsylvania is located just past the western Ohio border. It is only about a 25 minute drive from Youngstown, Ohio.
Detroit Police believe that the shooting at Cantrell Funeral Home is related to a drive-by shooting that occurred on Nashville St. near Gunston where 5 people were shot, one fatally. That shooting happened in the 11000 block of Nashville Street on Thursday, November 30th, 2017. Four men and one woman were victims of the gunfire. One of the men, Javon Parker, 26-years-old, who had the social media name of East Warren, was shot and killed.
Perez Smith Jr is considered Armed and Very Dangerous.
