Detroit Man Arrested in Troy on Weapons Violations and other Charges

TROY, MI – While on routine patrol, Troy Police Officers initiated a traffic stop in the Walmart Parking Lot, located at 2001 W. Maple Road, on Saturday December 23rd, 2017, 12:20 AM, on the driver of a silver 2002 Ford Focus that nearly struck two officers’ patrol vehicle.

One of the officers spoke with the driver, a 23 year old man from Detroit, who was unable to produce his State of Michigan Operator’s License, Vehicle Registration Certificate, nor Proof of Vehicle Insurance Certificate.

When he opened the glove compartment, one of the officers immediately noticed a handgun inside of it. The driver was ordered from the vehicle to which he complied and he was placed into the patrol vehicle. The officers found the handgun to not be loaded and that the driver did not have a Concealed Weapons Permit registered to him.

The officers also determined that his State of Michigan Operator’s License was ‘Suspended’ by the Michigan Secretary of State. The driver was arrested and while searching the vehicle, the officers’ located two marijuana grinders, and a green plastic container that contained suspected marijuana inside the vehicle. The suspected marijuana was field tested with a narcotics test kit with the officers receiving a positive reaction for the presence of marijuana.

The driver was charged with Carrying a Concealed Weapon in a Motor Vehicle Violation, Driving While License Suspended, Vehicle Registration Violation, No Vehicle Insurance, Possession of Marijuana, and Possession of Narcotic Paraphernalia.
