MACOMB TOWNSHIP, MI – A Texas man is locked up after a lengthy police pursuit through multiple jurisdictions in Macomb County.
While on patrol on Hall Rd, a Macomb County Sheriff’s Deputy observed a suspicious red 1995 Chevy suburban with a Texas license plate towing a Uhaul trailer out of Utah. Once the deputy attempted to make a traffic stop for a violation of Michigan traffic law, the driver failed to stop.
The driver was the only occupant of the vehicle. He drove through the median from Eastbound Hall to Westbound Hall. After swerving through traffic the suspects’ vehicle side swiped another car traveling on Westbound Hall Rd.
The sideswipe crash caused the trailer on the suspect vehicle to break free from the fleeing Chevy suburban. The trailer was left in the roadway. The driver continued to flee to Westbound I-94. On I-94 the driver left the roadway driving down the embankment where he continued to flee through the City of Mt. Clemens.
The vehicle/driver fled through Macomb Twp., Clinton Twp., Mt Clemens, Sterling Hts, and Warren. The vehicle continued to flee on Westbound on 16 Mile near Moravian where Sheriff’s Deputies terminated the pursuit. The suspect was then pursued by Sterling Heights Police as he fled into the city of Warren. Warren Police apprehended the suspect after a brief foot chase.
While responding a Sheriff’s deputy was involved in a collision on Gratiot at Wellington Crescent in Clinton Twp. The deputy collided with another vehicle. The other vehicles occupants were not injured. The injured deputy was transported to the hospital where he received treatment for his injuries.
The deputy is a 16 year veteran of the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office. The crash investigation is being conducted by the Michigan State Police.
The suspect, a 31 year old man from Texas, is in custody at Warren Police Department pending formal charges. The suspect will be formally charged tomorrow or Monday.
