Man Identified in Fatal Police Officer Shooting in Royal Oak

ROYAL OAK, MI – The Royal Oak Police Department has identified the man fatally shot by an officer on Tuesday April 10th, 2018, as Antonino Thomas Gordon, a 28-year-old man from Commerce Township.antonino gordon

Antonino Gordon has had numerous contacts with law enforcement including multiple arrests for Operating While Intoxicating (OWI) and disorderly conduct. At the time of this incident, Gordon had a criminal bench warrant for his arrest with a bond of $75,000.

In the press release, Royal Oak Police stated “This loss of life is tragic, and the Royal Oak Police Department understands the public’s desire for more details of this incident, yet it would be inappropriate to release partial information until the investigation is complete.”

A Royal Oak police officer was involved in a fatal on-duty shooting that occurred at the White Castle located at 13 Mile and Coolidge today, April 10.

The investigation is being handled by the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office – Special Investigation Unit. In accordance with Royal Oak Police Department policies and procedures, the officer, who was uninjured, will be placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

The incident began at 6:11 p.m. when the officer attempted to make a traffic stop. The driver fled from the officer. A short time later, the officer observed the suspect vehicle in the drive-through of the White Castle. The officer approached the driver and shot, striking him. The driver fled eastbound from the parking lot and struck a vehicle on 13 Mile near Shenandoah.

Responding officers and Royal Oak Fire Department paramedics arrived on the scene. The driver was transported to Beaumont Hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The driver of the other vehicle involved in the crash was also transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
