Assistance from Public Sought in Huron County Hit and Run Crash

OWENDALE, MI – This past Saturday evening, May 5th, 2018, at 11:55PM, the Huron County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene of a serious hit and run crash on Sebewaing Rd. in front of the Silver Bullet Speedway located at 5801 Sebewaing Rd in Owendale.Hit and Run

The investigation determined that a 2002 Lincoln Town Car was eastbound on Sebewaing Rd. near a speedway entrance, when a west bound 1999 Dodge pickup failed to yield to the Town Car and turned in front of it.

After the two vehicles collided, the 20-year-old man, from Caseville, who was the driver of the Town Car, was seriously injured. He was transported to Scheurer Hospital by the Elkton Ambulance Service.  The victim was later transferred to another medical facility for specialized treatment due to the serious injuries that he sustained in the accident.

The unknown driver of the pickup fled the scene on foot.

Several individuals witnessed the incident, as it was reported that the pickup had previously left another speedway driveway recklessly and began westbound, before turning in front of the Town Car. However, no one could provide information as to who the driver was or any description them.

The actual owner of the pickup told the investigating officer, Deputy Eric Hessling, that his pickup had been taken without permission and he did not know who the suspect could be.

The investigation has been ongoing.
